Inside Calgary’s NEW Central Library!

October 31, 2018

Today (November 1st, 2018), Calgary’s newest architecturally significant building, designed by Norway architecture firm Snøhetta, will open to the public.

The New Central Library, with design inspired by the city’s famed chinook arches, has been under construction for several years.

And earlier this week I had an advanced invite to go inside and sneak a first look at its jaw dropping interior.

Now the last time I was at a public library, I was miserably failing Grade 7 English and needed to do some research on Pandas for a project.

And boy oh boy have things changed! Libraries are more than just books!

The New Central Library is filled with initiatives I still can’t even believe!

These are 3 things I literally can’t even get over…

Borrowing Laptops

Want to surf the web (free wifi included), anywhere over the 4 floors of the library?

You can check out these devices for 3 hours with a scan of your library card!

A Kids Paradise!

Okay kids… This library is ridiculous!

They’ve got VR equipment, Gaming consoles (Nintendo Switch & PlayStation) and a comfortable climbing structure to escape from your parents in!

And parents, you’ll want your kids to escape you, because there’s a coffee shop that serves ice cream and wine located right in the middle of the library!

This whole place is almost TOO MUCH!

But there’s more and this one has me crazy excited!

An Audio and Video Recording Studio

Get ready to produce a podcast or start a YouTube channel or vlog; The New Central Library has all the equipment and it’s FREE to use!

You can book the space in 2 hour sessions, which is more than enough time to start your path to fame, and they’ll have smart techs on site to help you along the way!

Seriously pinch me!

The New Central Library has it all… Literally!

You’ve got to check it out!

This weekend they’ll be hosting huge festivities on site and the city is invited to join in!

So grab a friend and get ready to explore!

Try not to get lost!
