Long nights, cowboy hats and lots of sunshine are three key elements of every good Stampede. But these elements can leave you feeling melted, flattened and sunburned. To prevent all that I’ve wrangled up the below Stampede beauty must-haves I know you’ll love. Best part – they are all purse friendly.
Did you know Calgary’s Stampede happens every year from the first weekend in July and go for ten action-packed days? With the first Stampede in 1912 – this event has become known as the ‘Greatest outdoor show on earth’. Since returning to Calgary – I’ve noticed the new emphasis on bringing the world’s top musical talent to the city. This year there are over 150 musical acts across ten venues around the city’s core. From honkytonk to EDM – there are tents with tunes for all.
Now, to dress the part (and also protect that face from the sun) – you must wear a cowboy hat. Though cute – by the end of the night your hair is going to be flattened – to revive those locks I look to my favourite product…dry shampoo.
JVN’s Essential Dry Shampoo | Travel-size

The JVN Essential Dry Shampoo is so good. Lightweight and instantly effective – it also comes in a travel size, perfect for stashing away in your purse for a mid-day revive. This does not leave a white residue as it micellar-water based and works better overtime.
Next – it is July so you will be hot. Your make-up will melt from all the sun, fun, and activity.
Shiseido’s Revitalessence Loose Setting Powder

Found at Shopper’s Drug Mart – this new powder is incredible. The price is high – but it is my new favourite product. This powder feels like nothing but air on your skin – perfect for the summer heat and humidity. It is ultra-fine and blurs imperfections and reduces shine. It gives my skin a perfectly polished look. What I love it is works on any skin tone and comes in two finishes – either Glow, or Matte. The Revitalessence loose powder sets for up to 12 hours – but comes with its own puff so you can easily pop this into your bag for late night touch-ups.
And finally – the sun will be shining. Another fun fact for you – Calgary is Canada’s sunniest major city and because of our high elevation, the sun feels brighter here and hits stronger.
Glow Recipe’s Dewy Defense SPF 30 Hydrating Fluid Sunscreen

Glow Recipe’s SPF sits great under makeup and feels comfortable all day. Incorporating the best of Korean skincare into this SPF – you are not only helping prevent sunburns – your skin is getting a solid helping of great ingredients – like niacinamide that will visibly reduce the appearance of existing sun spots and hyperpigmentation while strengthening the skin barrier against future UV-related damage. The packaging is also great – no fear of a cap flipping open in your purse! If you have extra sensitive skin and SPF can irritate – I’ve added some links below for sensitive-skin friendlier options you can read about 🙂
Attitude’s SPF 15 Tinted Lip Balm

I love this Canadian brand – they are always coming out with new innovations. I want to highlight their lip SPF. Lips are often the forgotten child in sun prevention care but oh so important. The skin of your lips is thinner than your other skin which makes lips highly susceptible to UV damage. You can layer this product under your lip gloss – or where on its own for maximum efficacy. What I love is these come in a two-pack – one for car/home/work and one for your pocket/purse for continuous top ups throughout the day. Brilliant.
If you are heading down to the Stampede this year – come prepared and have a great time at the greatest show on earth. I hope you love the above products as much as I do!
