The County Wine Tours

May 14, 2018

Ontario is spoiled for choice when looking for the perfect Girls’ Getaway. From wineries to boutique hotels and award-winning spas; Ontario shines. So when my girlfriends and I decided to have an Ontario Girls Trip, I wanted to show them the best Ontario has to offer in a unique and memorable way.

When researching wine tours in the beautiful and charming Prince Edward County, I came across The County Wine Tours. Newer to The County, this company offers a ‘Sip & Cycle Bike Tour’ that I knew would be right up our adventure (and wine) loving alley!

I really can’t stop raving about this company and this tour! It was the Mary Poppins of Girls’ Weekend activities – practically perfect in every way. Down to the smallest detail, this tour exceeded all expectations.

Meeting our friendly and fun tour guide in Wellington, Prince Edward County we were fitted for our bikes and helmets, given a briefing of the afternoon, and set out on our adventure.

We started our tour on the Millenium Trail – a picturesque bike trail that weaves throughout the County. 25 minutes of cycling later we pulled up to Trail Estate Winery. Known for their single varietal, vineyard-focused wines we had four delicious samples and headed out for our next stop.

The Grange of Prince Edward County is one of the most picturesque wineries I’ve been to. Housed in a stunning old barn, this newly re-branded winery offers delicious samples, paired with herbed popcorn for snacking. We all loved their Brut Rose.

Closson Chase vineyard

Next stop was Closson Chase and their can’t-miss-it purple barn to sip Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in their gorgeous back garden. We were all getting a little peckish, so the snacks and water packed for us in our bike baskets hit the spot.

We were also able to pop into the Prince Edward County Lavender Farm where we stocked up on lavender essential oils, lip balms, infused honey and county charm. The owners are lovely and in the summer, you can pop in for fresh lavender lemonade.

On our ride we saw swans, beautiful farmland, a horse rehabilitation centre and loved just being outside, enjoying the fresh air and having some laughs on our bikes.

The final stop was Karlo Estates Winery. We loved this place – like entering a cozy den, we were treated like family. We loved how extensive their tasting menu was and how they paired each wine with a small snack. Interestingly, this winery is the World’s First Vegan Certified Winery and they are the only winery in the County to make a Malbec. We all took home bottles of their Maquette and Patio Reserve Rose.

A short bike ride back, where we passed North America’s largest dry stone bridge, and ten minutes later, we were back…and not wanting our day to end!

It was the perfect day. An experience we will always remember and I highly recommend.

No finer way to see the beautiful Prince Edward County while tasting delicious wine and making memories with your girls.

Book your bike tour this Spring and Summer – I know you will love it as much as we did.

A big thank you to The County Wine Tours for starting your season early for us and creating the perfect itinerary!
