I am a sucker for beautiful jars and pretty packaging…but the reality is this extra flair isn’t putting the environment first. Through trying to make a more conscious effort to purchase sustainable, streamlined products I was introduced to the new collection from aN-Hydra – and I knew I had to share it with you. aN-Hydra is really, truly rethinking skincare and I couldn’t be more behind it!
Not only are the three aN-Hydra skincare products stripped of all unnecessary packaging, they are stripped of water.
aN-Hydra = An-Hydrous (meaning ‘no water’).
Did you know most skincare products are made with 80% water? By removing the water, you can remove the preservatives – leaving room only for active ingredients.
Developed by clean beauty pioneer, Canadian Susanne Langmuir, aN-Hydra came to be when she was walking through pharmacy aisles – stunned to see she was just surrounded by plastic and water.
Removing all the water from the products also results in a cleaner, sustainable product – stripped of all plastic packaging. Because, did you know it is estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish.
Now, let’s go through these totally inclusive, thoughtful, and just plain loooovely products, in order of use in your skincare routine:
1 | Microbiome cleanser | $55
This is really the ‘Swiss army knife’ of skincare products. It is a vegan probiotic that balances your skin’s microbiome while it cleanses, gently exfoliates, and removes impurities. You can use this product as a daily cleanser or an overnight mask. It is amino acid instead of soap, so you can sleep overnight with this as it disappears into the skin; simply washing it off in the AM with water.
The formula has rice flour, a tiny bit of illuminizer, and two eco-cert clays and so you can also use this as a blotting and mattifying powder throughout your day…and the best part is – it works on all skin types. To cleanse your skin, just pop a dime-sized amount into your hands, gently add a few drops of water, work it into a soft lather, apply to your skin, rinse, and ta-da! A lovely clean face.
2| Hyaluronic Hydrator | $60
Let’s call this a moisture magnet! Hyaluronic acid is something I never skip in my routine as it really is a miraculous little molecule, attracting 1000x its weight in moisture and bringing that right into the skin.
This product is a bi-phase that needs to be shaken and activated with a few drops of water before application. Water-free, the liquid in this product is a combination of universally balancing oils (that smell amazing). A hot tip with this – a little goes a long way. I like to apply this and not wear any foundation over top – the dewy glow it gives off is next level gorgeous.
3| Powder-C Brightener | $60
Let me tell you I was shooketh when I saw there is an 80% concentration of Vitamin C in this. SHOCKED! How is that even possible??
But it is when you remove the water!! Water degrades and breaks down the efficacy of the product. That is also why sometimes products with Vitamin C can smell a little strange…
This wonder product brightens the skin, improves skin texture and tone and is a powerful antioxidant. The same with the other two products, this is water-activated and transforms into a lovely serum you can pat into your skin. It remains stable for over one-year and surprisingly the texture isn’t at all grainy. It also contains an extra hit of hyaluronic acid and has a product called, Lumiral, which optically corrects the surface of the skin – giving it a lit-from-within look.
