Best of Calgary – immrfabulous

January 21, 2020

In 2011 I started immrfabulous.com.

Back then blogs were far few in between and social media did not exist.

I started the blog to share my unique perspective on all things.

Food, Fashion, Home, Events, Travel and more…

Within my first year I was fortunate enough to have been nominated for a few global blog awards and ended up taking home the title of ‘Best New Blog’ & ‘Best Humour Blog’.

That was a moment I’ll never forget. Knowing that my readers were as passionate about reading as I was about writing.

Since then, I’ve been honoured with several awards including one where I was called a ‘Game Changer’.

I was someone who tried something different, stepped outside the box and was noticed for doing so.

Nine years have past and this rollercoaster of a life has brought me more opportunities and good fortune than I could have ever expected.

Now it’s 2020 and the industry has wildly changed.

With the addition of the uncountable number of platforms and people, I’ve noticed that passion sometimes takes a back seat to payments.

But I can’t fault others… after all when you work at something 24 hours a day, seven days a week, a pay check feels fair.

That said, my objective here is still the same:

Authentic share my adventures, good or bad, and along the way introduce myself and you to new experiences, opportunities and findings.

Recently I received an email congratulating me on being listed as one of the ‘Top 4 Influencers‘ in Calgary.

A delightful surprise to be noticed but a concerning title which often misrepresents my intentions.

To me the word influencer makes me feel like someone who’s here to sell you on a defunct monorail your city never needed.

For me, I prefer to be viewed as a ‘discoverer’.

A person who shares what’s new, what I love and who has their finger on the pulse of what’s to come.

In our journey together you may see something you like. After all, we wouldn’t have been on this log road together if we didn’t have a lot in common already.

I just want you know that everything I wholeheartedly love is not due to a pay check and my intentions have never been to ‘influence’ you to attend, participate or purchase something you weren’t personally all in on.

So although I love the nod as one of the top ‘influencers’ in Calgary, I’ve corrected to post to read what I feel it should.

Looking forward to more great discoveries in 2020 with you.
