Gone are the days of thick, heavy lotions for your face.
Don’t get me wrong – they have a time and place (like Calgary, in the dead of winter when there is zero humidity and your skin is flakier than a croissant), but the majority of the year you can let your skin breathe with lightweight products that truly pack a punch.
My skin feels much more comfortable (especially in the summer) when I am not slathering myself with heavy creams and lotions, and, this year I’ve been focusing on using tinted moisturizers instead of foundation, essence instead of serum, and moisturizing mists instead of creams. My skin has never been happier.
Here is a list (both save and splurge) of all the recent lightweight heavy hitters I’ve come to love.
Sub Your Foundation for…
Winky Lux’s White Tea Tinted Veil. $33
New to Canada, Winky Lux is a whimsical brand that fuses skin care with makeup.
The Winky Lux White Tea Tinted Veil is a white tea and pomegranate extract-infused tinted moisturizer. It also contains vitamins A, E and broad spectrum SPF 30. I love the way it smells and melts into my skin, leaving a soft, luminous hint of colour.
Omorovicza’s Complexion Perfector. $155
The ultimate multi-tasker, Omorovicza’s Complexion Perfector is a silicone-free moisturizer, foundation, concealer, and skin care in one. Essentially a BB cream, this lovely smelling lightweight cream leaves my skin sheer but magically even with the perfect amount of moisture. I like to apply this with a dampened beauty blender for perfect complexion enhancement.
Sub Your Serum For…
Vichy’s Minéral 89. $40
I can’t get enough of this product. I am handily blowing through my second bottle because it is so so good. Vichy’s Minéral 89 quickly absorbs into my skin, leaving it super hydrated. Packed with Vichy’s mineralizing thermal water and natural origin hyaluronic acid, it strengthens and pumps up skin’s health. If you are living in a really humid location – you could just use this on your skin and be good to go.
Teaology’s White Tea Miracle Drops. $50
This new-to-Canada brand is harnessing the natural power of tea in all its skincare products. My favourite from the line is their White Tea Miracle Drops. As light as water, this white-tea packed formula is full of antioxidants, peptides and vitamin C all adding to skin’s brightness, density and texture. Incrediby lightweight, I love using this product on sticky summer days.
Rodial’s Dragon’s Blood Essence Mist.
Found at Murale, Shopper’s and beautyBOUTIQUE here in Canada, Rodial’s K-Beauty-inspired Dragon’s Blood range focuses on skin health. I bring this product in my gym bag because it is such a lightweight multi-tasker this one bottle prevents my gym bag from weighing as much as I bench press. The actual spray of this product comes out so fine the product instantly sinks into my skin acting like a primer, setting spray, toner, hydrator, and serum, in one…and the smell is paradise.
Garnier’s Soothing Facial Mist. $11
Garnier takes ingredient transparency seriously. Their labels are clear and straightforward with no marketing jargon masking the truth. This 99% naturally-derived facial mist is jam packed with rose water extract making it perfect for sensitive and dry skin. Vegan friendly, paraben, silicone and dye-free, you can feel confident about what you are applying to your skin. I love this spray as it is such a fine mist I can use it to prep my skin, or as a refresher throughout the day.
Eve Lom is one of those brands I ooh and aah over. Everything they make is luxe and effective. Their brightening mask is, hands down, my favourite sheet mask on the market. With a company focus on radiance, their Radiance Mist is a favourite of mine because it is so much more than a mist. This water-weight mist hydrates, firms and gives my skin a ‘glow from within’ look while containing antioxidant and anti-pollution ingredients like Wild Indigo.
Sub Your Moisturizer For…
Omorovicza’s Magic Moisture Mist. $120
Hands down, this is my new favourite product. A two-phase formula that, when shaken to combine, provides instant, lightweight hydration that gently absorbs into my skin. But more than hydration, the vitamin E, wheat germ, tomato stem cells and regenerative essential oils this product incorporates fights the effects of pollution and nourishes my skin.
Rosehip, avocado, sweet almond, rose geranium, orange peel, neroli and roman chamomile are just some of the essential oils used in combination to create this high potency mist. Combined with Omorovicza’s patented Healing Concentrate™ my skin has never been happier.
I hope you try lightening up your routine with some of these lightweight wonders.
