Last month, spring had finally arrived and I was craving fresh flavours to celebrate. Luckily, my tastebuds and I were invited to experience “Viva Las Tapas” at SIAL 2016!
SIAL is a three day food and beverage festival in Montréal. You will find EVERYTHING gastro under the sun including featured cheeses, wines and meats from Spain. Prepare your tastebuds for an extravaganza!
Guided under the delightful tutelage of Chef Marie-Fleur St. Pierre from Restaurant Meson, the degustation was incredible.
She would explain a recipe and then make it before our eyes with the fresh ingredients. Pure yummy joy!
We sampled 10 different tapas dishes accompanied by prosecco, red and white wine. Oui, I should have worn the fat pants.
Surprising to me, one of my fav’s was the black pudding with a tomato, apple & quince curry. Shocking, I know! It was scrumptiously spicy without being over-powering in richness. Adored!
Another was the simple beauty of a roasted grape tomato on a fresh basil leaf with high quality EVOO – Extra Virgin Olive Oil – on a goat cheese croustini. HEAVEN. I thought about ‘accidentally tripping’ the server in order to have more on my plate. YUM.
The BEST was the chorizo stuffed medjool date on fresh yogurt with a citrus essence. My mouth is watering even describing it. Wonderful spicy sweet flavour combination. FAV.
What a decadent afternoon!
If you get the chance to take in SIAL next year, RUN to Espagne. Until then, head to a local Quebec fine épicerie to enjoy the delicious ingredients of Spain, you’ll find me by the cheese.
Bisous,
Mlle Fab Olé
