Here in the FAB family, two things are especially important to us around the holidays: Spending time with loved ones and the gift of giving.
So this year we’ve teamed up with our friends at Home Depot to accomplish both.
Over the next 2 days, M.Fab in Toronto and myself in Calgary, will begin to create beautiful DIY holiday tablescapes for each of our homes.
The ideas will be shopped and sourced from unconventional products available from the millions found at Home Depot. Then with the help of our friends and loved ones, we will transform the raw product into holiday table decor.
Today, I’ll share 2 of my DIY ideas… And on Tuesday, M in Toronto will share 2 of hers. Then Wednesday morning we’ll reveal our East & West Tablescapes giving you a chance to chime in and vote for your favourite.
Then, early next week, our ‘giving’ will begin as the FAB team heads out to local homeless youth shelters in Toronto & Calgary to spread the holiday merriment.
We’ve been so lucky to have you, our readers, as a part of our family over the last 3.5 years, it’s time to make sure others feel loved the way you have made us feel.
So let’s get started with my 2 DIY’s that will adorn my table reveal Wednesday…
1. Wooden Stakes
When I was a kid, part of my favourite holiday decorating was setting up the Christmas Village.
Ours were made of cardboard and styrofoam, and each year they’d show more and more wear. So for these, I decided to create them out of wood!
After a quick cut and a light sanding, the ‘houses’ we’re ready for a coat of paint.
Using one of the the colour palettes Home Depot offers in their holiday decoration department, I decided on pastel blue, reflective silver and glittery spray paint to give this village its holiday look.
The plan for Wednesday is to stage the homes in mini city vignettes down the centre of my table.
2. Plastic Plumbing Couplets
I’ve got boxes and boxes of napkin rings, but sadly none of them are in the proper accompanying colour.
So it was time to make my own!
A fairly simple project using painter’s tape, a bit of creative sticking… And Rust-Oleum’s plastic adhering spray paint, I turned these plumbing supplies into the perfectly paired napkin rings.
A little bit of creativity and seeing the hidden potential of construction material from Home Depot can go a long way.
Join us tomorrow as M. Fab shows us 2 of her DIY ideas that she’ll use to complete her look.
