M Fab’s Complete List of Favourite Lip Products

December 3, 2018

As a beauty writer, it is part of my job to test and try products ranging from the latest fads to tried and true cult classics…all so you don’t have to waste your time and money on products that don’t work or are not worth the moola.

I only share my absolute favourite products with our Fab readers so you can always trust my recommendations. And lip recommendations I have aplenty!! If I was stranded on a desert island and could only bring one beauty product – it would be lipstick.

That is why I am so excited to share with you my Complete List of Favourite Lip Products. These are the products I re-buy, always have in my purse, have in numerous shades, and tell all my friends about.

To organize my curated recommendations, I’ve grouped them into five groups: Reds, Purples, Pinks, Nudes and Hydrators. And because the holidays are fast approaching, within each group I’ve called out one product I think would be the perfect complement to your holiday lewk*.

Pucker up and let’s get into it!

The Reds:

Yes you can wear red. It truly is a colour that looks great on every skin tone. You just need to find the shade that works for you. Maybe it is an orange-based red, or a blue-based red…but I assure you, you can rock a red.

Here are my favourite Reds with a sentence describing why I love them:

  • Stila’s Stay-All-Day Liquid Lipstick in ‘Beso’. It truly stays and stays and is the perfect ‘old-Hollywood glamour’ red.
  • M.A.C’s Matte lipstick in ‘Lady Danger’. A modern twist on a classic red.
  • L’Oreal’s Colour Riche ‘Matte-Ly in Love: 102’. Bold and vibrant, an instant pick-me-up.
  • Quo’s Lip Velour in ‘Envy’. Long-lasting, not drying, layerable with the perfect brush applicator.

Holiday Lewk Red Lip: Laura Mercier’s Velour a Deux Lip Duo – Red.

Released for the holidays in three shade packs (Red, Rose and Coral), this ‘Red’ colour pack is pure holiday lewk perfection. Containing Laura Mercier’s ‘Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick in ‘Dominate’ and a mini Velour Lovers Lip Colour in ‘Addiction’, you can wear both simultaneously, or separately for different looks. I love the application shape of Dominate and it’s moisturizing, satin-matte finish. It’s long-wearing, not drying and has become my daily go-to. Addiction is silky to wear and packs a punch. One swipe and your lips are instantly kicked up a notch – ready for that holiday soiree.

Here are my favourite Purples:

  • NYX’s Super Cliquey matte lipstick in ‘OBVS’. The perfectly precise applicator and smooth, easy-to-wear texture.
  • Quo’s matte ‘Date Night’. Boldly matte, highly pigmented.
  • Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick in ‘Sassy Mauve’. Easy to wear, a lovely level of sheen – a purse staple.
  • Charlotte Tilbury’s ‘Love Liberty. Mysterious, classic yet sexy, and highly pigmented.

Holiday Lewk Purple Lip: Clé De Peau Beauté Limited Edition Cashmere Lipstick in ‘Paint Me 505’.

‘Tis the season to ‘treat yo self’, amiriiiight? Though a splurge, the Holiday 2018 collection from Clé De Peau is what beauty dreams are made of. The whole collection is extraordinarily gorgeous and this lipstick is its pièce de résistance. The shape of the bullet, the click of the artful packaging…the long-lasting, subtly matte finish. The way it glides onto your lips and the stunning multidimensional colour payoff…it is truly special.

Here are my favourite Pinks:

  • Caryl Baker’s lipstick in ‘Sunrise’. Convenient mirrored compact, everyday chic shade.
  • NYX’s Powder Puff Lippie in ‘Puppy Love’. A smouldering smudge of colour with a delicious scent – the perfect done/undone.
  • Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Envy Lipstick in ‘Tumultuous Pink’. Classic 80’s bold hot pink.
  • Paul & Joe Tinted Lip Gloss in ‘003’. Vibrantly subtle, chic and glossy.

Holiday Lewk Pink Lip: BITE Beauty’s Amuse Bouche Lipstick in ‘SAKE’.

This ‘Sake’ shade of Amuse Bouche lipstick from BITE is a sophisticated pinky mauve hue that is moisturizing with a creamy finish. I love this Canadian brand – all their products are made in small batches and contain vitamins and omega oils, so they not only tint but treat your lips. This holiday, BITE has released their ‘Four Mini Amuse Bouche Lipstick Set’ that contains the limited edition shade – ‘Date’ as well as three best-selling shades (Nori, Tannin and Sake).

Here are my favourite Nudes:

  • Nude by Nature’s Moisture Sheen Lipstick in ‘Blush Pink’. Super comfortable and perfect for a ‘five minute face’.
  • NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream in ‘Stockholm’. Comfortable, opaque and perfectly scented.
  • Caryl Baker’s ‘Roseberry’. I’ve said it before, I am a fan of their lipsticks and this colour is understated and mature.
  • Lipstick Queen’s ‘Jean Queen’. A hybrid pink/nude, this colour makes my teeth look hella white – wear with denim to make your complexion pop.

Holiday Lewk Nude Lip: stila Stay-All-Day Shimmer Liquid Lipstick in ‘Nude Shimmer’.

For the holidays, to spruce up your nude, why not try a nude with shimmer? This stila shade dries matte and has a lovely golden sheen and slight shimmer to it. It is really so pretty and will give your holiday look a sophisticated yet modern edge.

Here are my favourite Hydrators:

  • NUXE’s Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm. I’ve used every night for the past five years.
  • BITE Beauty’s Agave Lip Mask in ‘Maple’. Incredibly amazing protection with a thick, luxurious feel.
  • EOS’s Organic Stick Lip Balm in ‘Sweet Mint’. Purse-friendly, instant hydration, great price.

Holiday Lewk Pink Lip: Burt’s Bees Mistletoe Kiss.

I know lipstick is not for everyone but a hydrated lip is! Burt’s Bees released an adorably perfect stocking stuffer – their Mistletoe Kiss 3-pack. Coming with their Pomegranate Moisturizing lip balm, Peony Lip Shimmer and Hibiscus Tinted Lip Balm – this set will give you subtle shimmer and colour for any holiday event.

Now, if you are a fan of reds, pinks, purples and nudes and just want it all…I have the set for you!

Shiseido’s Modern Matte Powder Lipstick Expressive Deluxe Mini Set Ribbonesia limited edition holiday collection contains five perfect shades from a mauve-nude to a deep, rich plum with the perfect pink and red in-between.

For $65, you not only don’t have to decide on one shade this holiday season, you can mix the shades to create bespoke colours as unique as you.

I hope you have enjoyed my Complete List of Favourite Lip Products (if you’ve made it to the end;). This is a culmination of years of sampling and testing and I hope you try some of them out and let me know which ones are your favourite!

*Realizing I am a blue-eyed brunette, not all the above shades will work on everyone, but this story is not just about the shade but the product itself. If it’s a great colour but crappy product, I wouldn’t tell you about it!

  1. Thanks M Always looking for the best Lipsticks – my staple item and you have introduced me to many I have never heard of but will be looking for!

Looking forward to reading your comments!
