Summer feels like a memory as leaves start to turn and regular scheduled programming recommences. This Summer I tried to truly soak it all up – I was outside as much possible – in the lake, in the garden, enjoying Summer evening walks. I obviously dip myself H to T in SPF due my translucent skin tone, but my hair has paid the piper. Too much sun and not enough hair self care.
In the next two blog posts I share some hair self care for fine Fall hair, like mine. Products I know you’ll love as much as I do; products that will restore lustre, moisture, and sheen to that Summer hair. Also – check out yesterday’s post on the fab Pro Pure Micellar Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner from TRESemmé.
Less plastic, more fantastic with Attitude Natural Care’s Leaves bars
ATTITUDE believes that reducing the amount of single-use plastic in our daily routines can make a real difference. And so do I! Their ingredients are PETA Certified, hypoallergenic, vegan and cruelty-free. This made-in-Canada, based out of Montreal Eco-conscious brand is one I’ve spoken of before – their SPF is really fantastic. Their leaves bars were new to me and I loved giving them a whirl in the shower.
With a biodegradable formula – these are perfect for this country girl. I live ‘in the woods’ and my septic system thanks me when I use kinder, gentler products.
Attitude has a variety of leaves bars for different hair types, but I tried their nourishing collection with Sandalwood.
Attitude | Leaves Bar Nourishing Shampoo | $14.95
The Attitude leaves bars blend plant and mineral-based ingredients like avocado oil for shine and softness, as well as cocoa butter to help protect dry hair from breakage.
They incorporate unique and powerful ingredients like:
- Green blue clay – cleanses and absorbs excess sebum and impurities
- Indian and watercress – strengthens and revitalizes hair and scalp
- Sandalwood and vanilla – makes the bar smell heavenly
These waterless bars are gym-bag and travel-friendly and never tested on animals.
How do you use a shampoo bar?
At first it might seem a bit strange to use a solid bar on your hair – but it is so easy! You just wet your hair then rub the shampoo bar between your hands, or directly on your hair, to form a lather.
You then massage into your scalp and rinse, I always like to cleanse twice to ensure super clean hair. Then, follow up with a conditioner!
Attitude | Leaves Bar Nourishing Conditioner | $14.95
Another plastic-free, waterless, biodegradable product – this solid bar conditioner is also contains avocado oil for shine and softness, as well as shea butter to repair and protect dry or brittle hair. It smoothes right into the hair, leaving your hair happily conditioned, not weighted down, and smelling great.
How do you store solid shampoo and conditioning bars in the shower?
The worry I had when I started using these solid bars was that they would disintegrate and leave a soapy mess in my shower – but this is not the case! The Leaves Bars are very compact and mess-free. I like to store mine two ways:
- In a reusable mesh bag. I really like ones that can hang as I loop the bag around my shower piping, or my shower caddy so it can drip dry. Something like these.
- On a soap dish, away from the direct stream of shower water.
Next week will be my final post of my Fall Hair Self Care series – I can tell you it is fabulous. New to the market and already causing major hair crushes.
