When I get the privilege of chatting with Skincare experts – I always dive in and take full advantage. There is so much to learn about skincare! Now that my skin has turned ‘sensitive’, I was so thrilled to speak to Ellis Holevas of AlumierMD Skincare about sensitive skin. What ingredients we should stay away from and other skincare best practices to achieve happy, healthy, glow skin. Ellis is truly wonderful, and if you aren’t, go follow her @ellisholevas now!
The first thing you clock when you speak to Ellis – her RADIANT flawless skin…which, she tells me, experiences Rosacea – just like mine. Ellis had so many wonderful tips and product recommendations I’ll guide you through them all, below. I’ve tried to summarize them for easy skimming…
Top tips for sensitive, rosacea-prone skin:
- Level up the hydration and always wear your SPF – A combo of focusing on your insides and outsides. Staying hydrated will help your skin’s barrier function. Lathering up in good quality SPF, like AlumierMD Clear Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 42 which contains soothing zinc will help the barrier function stay protected.
- Steer away from fragrance and other potential irritants. For those with sensitive skin everything is magnified! So this means steer away from fragrance and drying alcohols, incorporate soothing ingredients in every step of your routine.
- Examine the product’s texture. Some exfoliators are simply too rough for our skin and we need to either avoid them completely or alter their texture by combining them with softer textured products.
- Lifestyle matters – Monitoring your intake of alcohol, spicy food, heat, wind and cold. Yes, so many fun things tend to impact our skin – but with careful prep and moderation, there is no reason we have to eliminate them completely.
Sensitive skin tips for outdoor enthusiasts:
Right after getting home from outdoors – take the AlumierMD Sheer Hydration or Clear Shield SPF and apply it like a mask on irritated areas. The zinc these contain is super soothing and Clear Shield also has niacinamide. Leaving this on for a few extra minutes will help soothe your irritated skin.
Shower tips and tricks for sensitive skin:
Well, the bad news is – hot showers are a no no. Really try to not take hot showers, and if you simply don’t want to do that…wash your face after you shampoo and condition your hair with cooler water, splashed into your hands and not directly on your face. Do ensure to wash your face post conditioner – as leaving any remains of conditioner on your skin can hinder the functionality of your skincare’s actives.
Rosacea if not addressed, gets worse with time – with age it becomes more advanced. And, unfortunately, there is no cure but the above tips and tricks have really been helping me.
What else has been helping me is my new AlumierMD skincare routine Ellis recommended!
Sold as the AlumierMD ‘Calming Collection‘, this set of four products is really all you need to start your sensitive skincare journey. I am truly adoring the routine and my skin has never looked healthier and happier.
AlumierMD SensiCalm |$49
SensiCalm is a hydrating cleanser that expertly removes impurities and excess oil while gently calming skin. A great tip with this product is, you can mix this with exfoliators to help soften their application and reduce the chance of irritation. I love mixing this with my AlumierMD MicroDerm Polish.
AlumierMD Calm-R™ |$138
I can’t get enough of this soothing hydrating serum. It targets redness and blemishes while maintaining skin’s delicate moisture balance. It absorbs quickly and leaves my skin perfectly prepped.
AlumierMD HydraCalm |$71
This rich, luxe hydrator is packed with natural calming ingredients specifically formulated for redness-prone and sensitive skin. It feels oh so good on my skin, and even though it is thick, it wears beautifully under SPF and foundation.
AlumierMD Clear Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 42 |$52
AlumierMD SPFs land on my ‘best of’ SPF list year after year because they are true gems. This lightweight, quick-drying physical sunscreen that provides powerful broad-spectrum protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays using a combination of physical filters. I love it I love it and wear it everyday because UV can increase inflammation and sensitivity.
I hope the above helps you and if you are interested in learning more about AlumierMD and sensitive skin, again, follow Ellis on IG!
