As we transition into winter, the temperature drops and so does my frenemy, humidity. Skin can feel tighter, dryer, and overcompensate by becoming oily in areas that are normally balanced. In the Fall I love to transition away from just wearing tinted SPF to wearing tinted moisturizers (and SPF) for that extra boost of daytime hydration. So below are the very best tinted moisturizers for hydration – for every budget. But first – let’s get to know what tinted moisturizers are…and what they’re often not.
What is the difference between a moisturizer and a tinted moisturizer?
The most obvious difference between a moisturizer and a tinted moisturizer is the amount of colour coverage that each offers. Tinted moisturizers are pigmented in different colour ranges to match skin colours but offer the same or better skincare ingredients as moisturizers. Another key difference is sometimes if something is labelled as a tinted moisturizer – it is just a sheerer, lightweight foundation offering no moisturizing skin benefits. So make sure you are reading the labels and selecting products based on what your skin needs this Fall.

Do I need to wear a moisturizer underneath my tinted moisturizer?
Often times, a tinted moisturizer is just a sheer-to-light coverage foundation and does not substitute for an actual moisturizer in terms of skincare ingredients. If this is the case, you may want to layer a moisturizer under the tinted moisturizer – allowing the moisturizer to fully absorb before applying this additional layer.

Oh how I love Laura Mercier. I use at least one of her products daily – from her iconic Caviar sticks to Loose Setting Powders…this brand always released quality products. Knowing this I was thrilled to receive her updated Tinted Moisturizer Oil-Free 2N1 to test!

Radford TINT Daily Skin Perfector | $50 CA
Could this be the perfect tinted moisturizer? It is definitely a top candidate for me. This skincare-focused tinted moisturizer contains retinol palmate for smoothed skin over time. Now coming in five shades, it’s lightweight, layerable, and super comfortable to wear. Mixing this with Radford’s ‘Glow’ is a perfect way to create an extra glowy look. To apply this – I use my fingers or a damp sponge, applying an additional layer for areas where I normally apply concealer.
