51 years ago in Manhattan the Stonewall Riots began.
This monumental event in the fight for equality in the LGBT community changed the course of our history and our rights.
And now each June, the world officially recognizes the month as Pride Month.
Each year, major brands around the world create and release limited edition capsule collections in honour of our equality in June.
This year, more than ever, thoughtful and timeless originals have been given a colourful new look and design in support of the LGBT Community.
Here a look at a few of my favoirite pieces created to celebrate Pride 2020.
Levi’s
The original jean jacket since 1967, this year’s Trucker Jacket is like you’ve never seen before, crafted from a transparent and iridescent material.
A classic Levi’s silhouette, reimagined as a pair of unapologetically bold chaps
Levi’s have been longstanding advocates for equality, championing inclusiveness and progress.
This year 100% of net proceeds from the collection will go to OutRight Action International. An organization that works to advance the rights of LGBTQ+ people all over the world
Under Armour
For this year’s Pride Month, UA is going back to where it all started: the creation of the original Rainbow Pride Flag in 1978.
Hand-dyed on the rooftop of a community center in San Francisco, by a group of volunteers led by Gilbert Baker, the flag ultimately became a symbol of hope and togetherness that remains prominent in today’s LGBTQ+ community.
While we aren’t able to march alongside each other for Pride Month this year, Under Armour is proud to support LGBTQ+ diversity in sport year-round.
In addition to the apparel and footwear launch, Under Armour has created the UA PRIDE Grant Program, which seeks to alleviate financial hardships that have fallen upon LGBTQ+ community-focused non-profits due to COVID-19.
Dr. Martens
This year Dr. Martens has taken their iconic 1460 boot and “stitch it with love.”
Decked out with multi-colored ‘rainbow’ stitching on the upper as well as a rainbow heel loop and an embroidered rainbow flag all on top of Dr. Martens signature air-cushioned sole. This limited edition pair of 1460 lace up boots also comes with an alternate set of rainbow laces!
This year, Dr. Martens have made a $25,000 donation to The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ young people.
Mr. Fab proud!
