When I was first introduced to SkinCeuticals last year, I did not know much about the brand other than it was used by dermatologists. In chatting with SkinCeuticals’ National Education & Scientific Communications Manager, Chloe Smith, she not only walked me through their approach to skincare but outlined a regime specifically for me and my skin needs and concerns.
A customized skincare regime! I was so excited to start using the products and, now that I have for the past three months, I am even more excited to tell you all about them.
Backed by science, and leading the way in antioxidant research, SkinCeutical products are potent and show results quickly. What I like about them is their easy categorization – products are broken out into ‘Prevent’, ‘Correct’, and ‘Protect’ groupings – ideally you would use one from each category to complete your individual regime.
What type of products are in their ‘Prevent’ category?
In this category, products are antioxidants that neutralize free radical damage. And within this category are products that specifically target skin types like – dry, oily, problematic, or skin with discoloration…like mine!
In this category I was recommended the Phloretin CF.
The SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF is a light-weight, daytime vitamin C antioxidant face serum.
It acts as both a protector from environmental stressors and it diminishes the look of fine lines and discoloration due to its power combo of 2% Phloretin, 10% pure vitamin C (L-ascorbic Acid), and 0.5% Ferulic Acid. I apply this after I wash and dry my face in the morning.
Now – let’s talk about the ‘Correct’ category!
Correct products combine anti-aging, clarifying, moisturizing and exfoliating ingredients. In this category, I was recommended the SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense.
This came highly recommended to me due to the discoloration that suddenly appeared on my forehead over the summer (The. Horror.) This is a daily dark spot corrector which helps make skin brighter and more even-looking.
How does Discoloration Defense work?
It uses a combo of anti-discoloration ingredients, like, 3% Tranexamic Acid to minimizes the recurrence of stubborn brown patches, 1% Kojic Acid to improve skin brightness, and 5% Niacinamide to help reduce the appearance of skin discoloration.
I don’t know what caused my sudden discoloration (it can be caused by things like prescription drugs, UV exposure, etc), but I was keen to get rid of it without the use of expensive lasers…and I will tell you all now…IT WORKED. The other day my husband even noticed saying how the dark spots have gone. Now, they are not QUITE gone, but have drastically reduced and I feel so much more confident to go make-up free. I have been using this for the last three months, twice a day (always following it up with a good SPF).
From their ‘Correct’ category, I was also recommended the SkinCeuticals H.A Intensifier.
I am a LOVER of hyaluronic acid – it is a must in my daily skincare as it helps regulate moisture levels in the skin and is something that drastically starts reducing in the skin once you’re in your 40s. I was intrigued by this serum that amplifies skin’s natural hyaluronic acid levels as I love my skin to look naturally plump and firm. This product worked great and my skin has not felt dry the past three months, plus my makeup has been going on lovely and smoothly. Now, the final category, and something you all know I am passionate about – ‘Protect’.
This category includes broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreens, suitable for all skin types, daily use or prolonged sun exposure.
From this category, I was recommended their SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50.
This is a lightly tinted fluid sunscreen made with 100% mineral filters that provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. I know so many friends who don’t use daily sunscreen on their face because they hate the texture, or how the product makes their skin feel or makeup sit…well, friends – THIS IS THE TICKET!
I love this product. Love love love it. It goes on smoothly with very very little grit. It wears phenomenally well all day under a full face of makeup and I have zero complaints about it. I have even bought it for birthday presents because I love it so much.
And that is it – that was the regime I followed for the past three months. SkinCeuticals has made me a true fan and advocate – their products are legit and actually make a noticeable difference in my skin.
Have you tried SkinCeuticals before? What is your favourite product? I’d love to hear what you’ve tried.
Now, where is SkinCeuticals available? It can be tricky to find – it is not sold at your local Shoppers, so keep your eyes peeled for dermatologist offices and skin spas.
