I love Indian food but absolutely never used to even attempt to make it at home. So many spices, so many intricate and delicate flavours I didn’t want to make a debauchery out of. Then I was introduced to The Spice Tailor, Anjum Anand, last year and I am now making fast, delicious and authentic-tasting Indian food at home.
First off, Anjum Anand is the type of woman you aspire to be. So sophisticated, passionate, well spoken, incredibly talented and engaging. She not only created her own Indian food line, called The Spice Tailor, she has written eight cookbooks, appeared in her own BBC TV show called ‘Indian Food Made Easy’ and regularly guests on TV and radio shows across Britain and North America.
Now, back to The Spice Tailor line – launching in 2011, this range of ‘authentic, quality, at-home Indian cooking products’ is now found all over the world and has been hailed “as one of the most significant product innovations in the World Foods category in the last decade, rivalling (and indeed exceeding) restaurant quality dishes”.
Launching across Canada last year, the line just released a new product – the Keralan Coconut Curry sauce.
I was kindly invited to a cooking class, led by Anjum Anand, where we experimented with the new sauce by adding in different meats, vegetables and creating our own Keralan Coconut curries. After a fun night by the stove, I made a beef, sweet potato, spinach and paneer coconut curry that was super tasty and so easy to achieve.
Kerala is a South Western state in Indian, named after all the coconut trees it contains. So this sauce is a take on those regional flavours and flavoured with curry leaves, mustard seeds, tomatoes and tamarind. It’s a flavourful, yet mild sauce and is something that in a few minutes at home, you can make a gourmet-tasting meal.
When you see the sauce kits in the grocery store – snap them up! You can feel like a pro Chef in just minutes.
