Tonight officially kicks off the Calgary Stampede and with it comes the annual Beat Food of the Midway competition.
This year, the categories were split into sweet and savory with a winners awarded by a panel of judges and another set chosen by a group of 50 top influencers in Calgary.
So what took top prize and who surprisingly was left in the dust?
Sadly Candy Times Cotton Candy Waffle did not reign supreme.
A fresh made waffle cone taco, stuffed with Maple Cotton Candy drizzled with Marshmallow and Chocolate Sauce, sprinkled with Oreo Cookie and topped with Pokey Sticks.
Also falling short of votes, the very polarizing Snickel Dog.
A rolled Tortilla stuffed with a Hotdog, Pickle Spear and a Snickers Bar, deep fried and drizzled in Chocolate.
For me this was by far the most stomach turning treat I’ve ever eaten at the Calgary Stampede and also the most insanely unique.
It was a love/hate relationship for me and the Snickle Dog.
So what took top billing as the winner in the 2019 Sweet Category?
Butter Beer Soft Serve
This was not only awarded 1st place by the judges, but hit a Harry Potter home run with the influencers too.
But for the savory snacks, the awards were split!
The judges award went to the Onion Ring on a Stick
Topped with Chipotle Mayo, Crunchy Bacon Bits and Dehydrated Chives.
While the Influencers gave there top spot to Deep Fried Chicken Skin
Salty, Greasy, Crispy Delicious Chicken Skin!
Everything you’ve ever wanted from a late night treat!
The competition was fierce and the eats were all great, but only 3 were crowned the Best of 2019 Stampede Midway Foods.
