Memories are made at Kellyville
Fun fact: Up until last week I had never eaten crab.
But after one of my FAB Instagrammers messaged me to say “you’ve gotta go crabbing while you’re in Oregon”, I made sure to keep my eyes peeled as I drove down the coastline until I spotted Kelly’s Brighton Marina.
As I pulled in, I instantly knew that this roadside attraction, slathered with kitschy seaside decor, was the place memories were about to be made.
My experience started with the warm and welcoming staff. Girls and guys who all looked happy to be there and were as excited to see me crab, as I was to crab.
They first asked if I had ever crabbed before and when I told them not only have I never crabbed, I had never even eaten crab, they asked me to hang tight and quickly vanished.
Upon their return, they were accompanied by a 6’5 burly man with a football player’s build; was I about to be thrown out, or worse, turned into bait!?
Instead a hand was extended and the crab cap wearing man introduced himself to me; it was Kelly himself and he was about to be my crabbing guide!
What followed his arrival was 2 hours filled with amazing stories, during an experience I’ll never forget.
As we hit the water on a small motor boat, lines were tossed and bait filled baskets, ‘crab restaurants’ – as Kelly called them – were dropped.
Then, when our full service eateries were filled with the clawy patrons, it was time to speedily pull up our bounty.
Women and children were returned to the waters and the big daddies came back to shore with us.
It was time to feast.
And at Kelly’s Brighton Marina, they help take care of all the prep!
Salt water boiling and full instructions on where to crack and how to snack.
Perfect for a first timer like me.
Kelly’s Brighton Marina is a place that’s perfect for solo travelers, couples, friends and families.
The cost of our adventure is extremely reasonable and the memories that will last a lifetime and are worth more than money could ever buy.
