It was an honour to be involved in the promotion of the latest Starlight Canada Tea and Tiaras fundraising event.
This annual event is a celebration of courage and bravery while fundraising for much needed funds for the wonderful Starlight Canada organization through an afternoon tea held at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York.
Besides indulging in the amazing treats ranging from mini meringue tartlets to freshly baked cranberry scones, this year the event highlighted the amazing initiative called Ward + Robes, creating hospital gowns for kids to help them maintain their identity, dignity, individuality and strength during their hospital stays.
My fave Toronto company, Nuvango, designed and donated gowns to this year’s event – embracing bold art prints and a custom design to make kids comfortable and fashionable during their hospital stays.
The strength, positivity and courage of the kids was truly moving and made me want to do more to spread the love for this non-profit organization providing ‘emergency room to recovery’ support for children and families dealing with serious illness.
A way you can donate and support this great charity is to purchase ‘Flash’ the bear. Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada and Toys ‘R’ Us’ eighth limited edition, collectible bear.
Each year the charity selects a child to design the bear. This year it was Noah – a courageous boy with Pompe disease, which affects muscle growth. Because Noah’s favourite colour is orange, Flash the Bear displays this colour as well as a rainbow tie, reflecting Noah’s happy disposition and love of ‘looking dapper’ when he goes out.
100% of the proceeds from the sale of Flash will be donated to Starlight. To date the sales of bears has raised over 16 million dollars which all goes towards helping brighten the lives of seriously ill kids, like Noah through in and out-of-hospital programs.
Flash retails for $17.99 and can be purchased at www.toyrus.ca and/or at all participating Toys ’R’ Us stores across Canada.
