I love sharing stories of people and organizations who are doing great things, and most recently I was made aware of the great things the team at A Child’s Voice Foundation is doing.
Thanks to their Angel Hair for Kids program, ACVF has been providing wigs and hair loss solutions to financially disadvantaged children in Canada who have lost their hair due to a medical condition or treatment.
And this April, Nisim International (the company behind F.A.S.T. Shampoo & Conditioner), teamed up with Angel Hair for Kids to donate a portion of sales from their product to help the cause.
In addition, an event was held where 3 donors, 12 and under, were brave enough to donate their hair so that their peers didn’t have to go without.
So what was the motivation for 10-year-old Paige Reid?
“I want to donate my hair because there are children out there who don’t have any hair and that are sick, a wig will make them feel better.”
It was a thoughtful and selfless act of generosity from a child.
So how can we all help?
Consider growing and donating yourself.
Here are a few guidelines for what you’ll need to donate:
- The minimal hair donation length is 12 inches measured tip to tip (curly hair may be pulled straight to measure).
- Tightly secure the hair using rubber bands or elastic in a ponytail or braid.
- Permed, bleached, dyed, or treated hair is NOT accepted (slightly grey IS).
Who knew that something which comes free to most of us could be so valuable to a child!
