I’m not a baker, but what I do know is the sweet sweet goodness of baking!
So when I received a surprise box of a new sugar substitute, Xyla (xylitol), I knew it was time to tie on an apron and get down to business!
Now I’ve never liked shortbread, nor do I know the first thing about its baking process, so I decided that would be the perfect place to start!
After all, I’m a Leo… That makes me an expert at everything, including shortbread right!?
A quick trip to the grocery store and I was ready to start!
A little for the bowl and a for me, Xyla was smooth & easily melted on my tongue. It was like nothing I’ve tasted before.
The consistency is closest to a decorating sugar and would give the top of a sugar cookie a nice appeal.
But that’s not what I was making… And I best not stray!
The half way into my shortbread mixing I noticed a xylitol sweetened jam also in the box!
Time for an upgrade on the shortbread, I was now riding the Jam Thumb Print train!
Then it was time for the oven.
Now here’s the thing; because I don’t bake I’m not able to validate their claim that Xyla ‘Bakes just like sugar’…
But what I can tell you is that it’s just about as sweet… And can be used for more than just baking (strawberry mint mojito anyone?).
What’s hooked me is the claim that it has 70% fewer calories than sugar.
And saved calories means less time at the gym… And less time at the gym means more time to bake cookies!
There is no stopping me now!
Thanks Xyla!

Strangely enough it’s also good for people with Lyme Disease! Prescribed by my Doctor!!
Don’t forget Xylitol’s real strength – it actively prevents tooth decay when 6-10 grams are eaten daily! I love it!
