This weekend it’ll be Calgary’s turn to be all things unicorns and rainbows, as the LGBT community comes out loud and proud to show the city a good time full of love, acceptance and PRIDE.
Now husbands, don’t freak out, we will return your ladies sometime on Monday morning; but if you want to see what all the fuss is about… Why don’t you join us?!
Pride week will be filled with the usual excitement, but this weekend specifically there will be a few cherries thrown on top!
Saturday night will see one of my favourite dance parties of the year; Pure Pride.
An overindulgent night filled with live performances from the runner-up of Ru Paul’s Drag Race (should have been the winner): ALASKA, And a ‘who knows what to expect’ scandalous performance by Adam Killian.
Now if you’re a real ‘Shirley’ and tearing up the dance floor is not your thing, then the Pride Parade on Sunday might be your cup of tea.
Now when the parade will start is always a mystery… Us gays need our beauty sleep, not to mention loading the glitter guns takes time.
So head into DT Calgary and line up along 8th street SW and I’m sure we will get started sometime around Noon!
Now afterwards, a huge free public party will take place over at Shaw Millennium Park.
Families, mini doughnuts, music… All the usual suspects will be involved.
But if you need a moment to sit down and break away from the crowds?
Then follow me to the patio of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, because Thomson Restaurant mixologist Tracy Burton has been secretly creating some pretty spectacular and themed cocktails specially for Calgary Pride Weekend.
‘Taste the Rainbow’ ($10)
Mixes 7 different kinds of frozen fruit, Absolute Raspberry Vodka and soda together for a ‘healthy’ libation.
You can also sit down with a friend, or a long straw, and enjoy the
Pride Pitcher ($20)
Sandstone’s Signature White Sangria with coloured ice cubes.
After a few of these everything will be coming up sunshine and RAINBOWS!
So regardless of how you plan on celebrating Pride, just celebrate!
Us gays will be more than happy to show you a good time!
See you out this weekend!
