Last night, one of the most lively and engaging Film Festivals I have been I invited to rolled its final credits.
The Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF)
Throughout all my world travel, Palm Springs has continued to be at the top of the list as my favorite place to visit.
So when the opportunity arose to partake in the festival, I was only too happy to board a plane and head for a week of sun and pool side evenings in the gorgeous city!
Each film festival I cover always comes with its own unique strengths and weaknesses. But in the case of PSIFF, the positives are plentiful!
At a glance, Palm Springs’ demographics consist of 50% gay men, 40% seniors and 10% others.
This combination of a wildly disposable income with a community who is lookin’ to party saw sold out Galas and Films during PSIFF. With such crowds, many theatres housed secondary lines filled with standbys hoping to catch a piece of the action!
My stand out films at this years festival included:
An interesting film where dozens of contemporary actresses read from Marilyn’s recently discovered private papers, giving us a further glimpse into the private and often tortured life of Marilyn Monroe.
A hilarious look at the life of two Middle Ages couples looking to spice up their marriages.
And my #1 pick for best film at this years festival…
This movie follows the life of a gay man who, while caring for his dead brothers family, is threatened with deportation from the USA.
With limited options he turns to marrying his lesbian best friend, but after finding true love with another man, his world is turned upside down.
This is a real life battle of life, love and the law.
This amazing movie was so well reviewed that it received the ‘runner up’ PSIFF Audience Choice Award!
If you ever get a chance to see any of these films as fests sweep across the world in 2013, jump in your Jaguar golf cart and head to see these 3!
Thanks to the PR team of PSIFF for the opportunity to be a part of an amazing festival!
