Famous Fridays (Common)

I love being able to meet or work with someone and form an opinion of them before I finding out they’re a ‘big deal’!

This happened recently when I worked on set of the AMC production of Hell on Wheels.

Now don’t get me wrong, when I work on set, I know the actors are a major deal. But unless I’ve seen their pictures splashed across the tabloids, I can never be sure of how large their career has been.

This was the case with Common who plays the role of Elam Ferguson in the Hell on Wheels series.

Working with him I quickly realized the guy had a heart of gold and was well liked by the crew on set. Calm, friendly, and polite; he was a real gentlemen.

After working on set, I ended up bumping into him in the middle of the street.

I had a nice conversation with him and that’s when someone asked to take our picture.

We obliged and later that day I was sent a copy via email. Apparently this was a big fan of not only the show but of Common’s long career as a Grammy Award winning Hip Hop Artist.

Using the power of Wikipedia I searched Common only to find a very long list of his musical talents; indeed he is a very well-known artist!

But to me, I will always know him as a talented actor and most importantly, just a really nice guy!!

He deserves all his good fortune!
