I have been informed it is possible that the Calgary Flames will NOT be in the parade and the press release I received as my source was incorrect. My apologies
There is something very odd and very exciting happening to this years Pride.
First off, history will be made this year with Naheed Nenshi, Calgary’s current mayor, leading the Pride parade as the Grand Marshall. In the 21 year history of Calgary Pride, Nenshi will be the first mayor to lead the event; marking a distinctive acceptance that Pride events are meant to embody.
Then last night I received a press release and things got even a little more bizarre;
The Calgary Flames will also march in the parade as a team.
Considering there was only 1 member of the team who participated in the Stampede Parade, I couldn’t be more blown away over the support that they are showing us for Pride. It is amazing to see that people who you never thought would be associated to this type of event are finally stepping up and saying “We support and love you, everyone deserves equal human rights.”
I am looking forward to the festivities of Sundays Parade.
The Pride Parade starts at Olympic Plaza and marches west along 8th Avenue, ending at Shaw Millennium Park where the Street Festival begins. The Parade begins at noon and the street festival ends at 6 PM.
