As I walked through Mission on my way to the Core fashion show yesterday I was slowed down by the 4th Street Pancake Showdown. Yes, only in Calgary will an entire community battle for pancake supremacy. After 16 dozen flap jacks, I tossed in my vote for Tilted Grill and their Red Velvet Pancake topped with syrup and crumble.
Afterwards I undid my pants and continued my waddle down to Stephen Ave for The Core’s annual signature fashion show in hopes of finding bigger clothes and new fashion to don while I cover this years Stampede.
I would like to commend the makeup and hair which was provided by Eveline Charles, a very modern and fashion-forward Stampede look. Perfection!
Now on to the show, models provided by AW model management
The female models were looking very ‘Ye Haw’ stomping the grass runway in a variety of cute summer dresses and jeans.

Then the men hit the field wearing the most boring and conservative outfits typical of the downtown business man: khakis and checked shirts. I was half asleep, as were the models who wore them.
I have been to a number of fashion shows and I will say it time and time again; You need to WORK the runway! These male models literally trolled to the end of the runway, crossed their arms and look miserable…
This is Stampede, a time we celebrate, next year I hope to see a little more ‘boot scootin’ and ‘do si do’
