The Current War: A Panel Discussion for TIFF ‘17

September 10, 2017

Being invited by Grey Goose to listen in on a panel interview with the cast of the new movie, The Current War, was the TIFF highlight of all TIFF highlights.

The Toronto International Film Festival has become world-renowned for drawing in top movies and top A-listers from around the world, so to be able to be in proximity to three of the biggest – was a thrill!

The Current War (watch the trailer, here) is a biographic historical drama described as the “story of the cutthroat race between electricity titans Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse to determine whose electrical system would power the modern world.”

During the panel, writer Michael Mitnick said the story was more than about electricity – but moreso about power.

The Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) competition was a feud between the “greatest inventors of the industrial age over whose electrical system would power the new century”. Add Tesla (Nicholas Hoult) in the mix and you have a riveting story of ego, genius and ultimate power.

I can’t wait to see this real-life story played out on the big screen. I love period movies – the costumes and sets are always so stunning. Each actor said how they felt this movies’ costumes were spectacular and they enjoyed embodying these historical figures…warts and all. That’s right, Fab friends – the handsome Benedict Cumberbatch does not look so dashing in this movie as the middle-aged Edison. But, nothing good lighting can’t fix, right?

Now – some gratuitous photos of the handsome cast.

…and one of me in my new dress!
