Must Sips at Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival

October 15, 2016

Last night I gathered the troops and we headed out for a food & libation filled night at Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival.

Having attended many events like this in the past, we always arrive with a ‘sampling agenda’ and last night we were on the hunt for White Wines that don’t give us heart burn.  Now I’m not exactly sure when it happened, but as we all got older certain wines have started to trigger the worst acid reflux in us. So much so that even just the smell of some wines can send us running for Tums!

So we were focused on created the perfect ‘old persons’ White Wine collection!

When we first walked in, we quickly circled the room looking for our prey.

First attack: Sterling Vintner’s Collection Chardonnay.

After the first sip I was immediately unsure. Initially a little tart on the toungue, the wine actually finishes on the smooth buttery side; perfect to pour in to a travel mug for the movies.

Then we moved on… It was Taste, Burn, Taste, Sting, Taste… ahhhhhh! Until another great find:

Castoro de Oro Sauvignon Blanc

A newer-to-the-Calgary-market wine that I had never seen or heard of before. A plethora of notes and a tad sweet, this Sauvignon Blanc is like nothing I’ve tasted before.

On to the next…

“Oh wait, what’s that?” I say,

“Midnight Moon?”

Apple pie, Cherry and Peach Moonshine straight from North Carolina: we had to taste!

Honest to goodness this is one of the most authentic tasting, delicious fruit infused sprits I have ever tasted.

No artificial colours, sweeteners or flavours, just Gluten Free Moonshine flavoured with real fruit!

… And at 70-100 Proof, that’s where the rest my my night became hazy, along with my interest in wine.

I became infatuated with the Midnight Moon Moonshine and focused on eating the fruit out of the jars by the forkful! The night ended in complete success though with 2 wines that the ‘heartburn squad’ and I can really enjoy, and the new discovery of Moonshine.

If you’re headed to the RMFW Fest tonight, I recommend you bee-line to these 3 booths first…

Well, maybe save the Moonshine for last!

Happy Sipping!
