The ‘Cool’ Side of Palm Springs

August 22, 2016

With my Birthday yesterday, I decided to spend this past week in Palm Springs – my favourite place in the world!

You can always count on the beautiful, mid-century modern city to have consistent and amazing weather; this past week was no exception!

Not a cloud in the sky and the temperature was a sizzling 45 degrees centigrade!

After a few days frolicking in the pool, my friends arrived and for some the day time heat was a bit overwhelming. So to cool them off, we decided to spend the day near the top of San Jacinto Peak!

Palm Springs is home to the worlds largest aerial tramway. A 12 1/2 minute ride that takes you from the floor of the Coachella Valley to the San Jacinto state park!

At the top, where the temperature can be as much as 22 degrees Fahrenheit cooler, it’s easy to spend the better part of the day hiking and taking in some of the most breathtaking views of the entire valley!

But the best part of visiting the state park?

The Jeffery Trees!

These indigenous trees to Southern California have an interesting characteristic.

They smell like butterscotch!

Literally, Jello pudding BUTTERSCOTCH!

Seemingly unbelievable I know, but deliciously true!

And with hundreds of trees, this place should have been named the Butterscotch Forest.

At least that’s what we’ve decided to refer to San Jacinto state park as!

So next time you visit my favourite place, Palm Springs, make sure you plan a trip up the mountain and into ‘Butterscotch Forest!’
