Happening Gourmand

January 12, 2016

I know I shouldn’t, but I kinda miss the decadence of the holidays. Savoury bites. Sweet treats. Stupid delicious cocktails. Yum!

Luckily, my holiday craving was able to continue as the opening of Happening Gourmand took the Montréal’s Old Port by storm last week!

Happening Gourmand is a food & cocktail festival taking place in Vieux Port from Jan 7th – Feb 7th. Featuring 8 different restaurants, this is the 9th year for this festival to occur.

What to expect?

A three-course menu from each restaurant for 22$, 25$ or 29$ as well as a lunch for 18$.

PSSST, if you want an extra indulgence, Verses Restaurant also offers a 39$ three-course menu.

Plus, each resto will create a signature Happening Gourmand cocktail. Santé!

Who are the 8 restos?

Vieux-Port Steakhouse.  Prawns & Chicken with a bleu cheese sauce. I’m not a Roquefort fan so I skipped, but a fellow blogger smiled upon first bite!

Verses Restaurant. As you can see there was MUCH to choose from. I sampled the Yellow Fin Tuna Carpaccio, ginger & basil marshmallow, jalapeño, passion fruit sponge, cucumber gel on an olive oil crumble. Flavour explosion: SO GOOD.

After chatting with the sous-chef, he admitted that the blondie was his fav snack in the kitchen. After one bite, I understood why. Wear the fat pants, mes amis!

Suite 701. Seared King Fish with a tomato salsa, onions, roasted corn & jalapeños. Light & Spicy!

An honourable mention goes to their banana brownie. My friend is not a sweets freak like me and he downed TWO before I could say bon appétit!

Taverne Gaspar.  Tuna Tartare & good ol’ mac n’ cheese, but upscaled with foie gras. DECADENT.

Modavie. THE LAMB PASTA. Wow. Just WOW. My fav savory of the evening hands down.

Méchant Boeuf. Beef on a foie gras seared potato. Um. Shut your face. So good!

Kyo Bar Japonais. Their Tataki beef is INCREDIBLE.

Plus, the Red Bean Bread Pudding: MOUTH GASM. A completely delicious surprise. It’s a MUST EAT!

Bevo Bar + Pizzeria. The bite I tried was a refreshing tuna & bean salad. Crisp & Clean!

All in all, it was a delightful evening and a wonderful kick-off for the Happening Gourmand festival.

After these tastebud teasers, I am drooling for MORE. Thankfully, I have until Feb 7th to taste everything!

Bisous,
