It’s Alberta Burger Fest and if you’re lucky enough to live in or be visiting Calgary, then this is your week to stuff your face for a good cause.
Almost 3 dozen restaurants have created special beefy offerings which they will be serving up until May 10th.
Not only will each burger you buy have 10% of its value go towards a charity, you’ll also have voting rights to help name the best burger in Alberta!
As I’m always up to support a great cause, I donned my stretchy pants last night and hit up 2 of the burger week competitors…
And here are my findings:
Last year Craft was the official winner of Burger Fest so this year I was excited to see what they’d bring to the table… And what they brought was A LOT for a little!
For $15, Craft’s Carnitas Burger has got to be one of the best values on any menu.
A Beef & Chorizo Patty Topped with Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder and piled high with so many other premium toppings like Bacon and Jalapeno Havarti, that it’s clear the restaurant isn’t making a dime on this creation.
And let’s just talk about the Portuguese Papo Seco Bun it’s served on…. It’s a glutinous piece of heaven sent to us from the bun gods!
Next I was on to BENSONHURST
Forget the fashion of the Met Gala in Manhattan last night! The red carpet was being rolled out here in Calgary at the Brooklyn inspired pizzeria named Bensonhurst and its ‘Empire State of Mind’ Burger was garnering all the attention!
Adorned with actual Gold Leaf, this Wagyu Beef & Shiitake Mushroom Burger with BC Cheddar, Chive Mayo, Confit Tommatoes, Alberta Lettuce, Red Wine Jus served on a Truffle Brioche Bun was gallery worthy.
The towering burger, designed by Chef Nate Webster (formerly of a 2 star Michelin restaurant) is called the ‘Empire State of Mind’… And is as impressive as the actual building itself.
It is a spectacular burger which is unlike anything you’ve seen or eaten before!
With so many Burgers being created for Alberta Burger Fest, I suggest you quickly begin to map out your meals for the next week… Leave no burger un-tasted!
