Cinco de Mayo

April 30, 2015

Cinco de Mayo is quickly approaching and my fingers have been covered in piñata paste for the last week in preparations for the festive occasion.

Now if you’re not the crafty party planning type, on May 2nd, Contemporary Calgary will be throwing an epic party titled; CINCO2015 as their final party in their current space known as C on Stephen Ave.

And the party will C (see) it all!

300 guests will be treated to all the flavours of Mexico!

Hand-crafted cocktails, small bites, bold colours of contemporary Mexican art, and from what I’ve been told, a large scale Piñata unlike anything you’ve seen before!

It promises to be a tequila fuelled night of fun!

Now, if you’ve waited too long and the tickets happen to have sold out, notable mixologist Stephan Phipps has been gracious enough to share an amazing margarita recipe with FAB readers so that you can host your own amazing Cinco party!

And to keep the good stuff flowing all summer long, he’s named it;

Camp Fire Margarita!

Campfire margarita

Here’s what you’ll need:

2oz of Patron Reposado (aged for 5 months, it’s the smoothest Parton and perfect for this type of drink)

1oz fresh lime juice

1oz fresh lemon juice

.5oz agave

Pinch of habanero salt

Add all ingredients to shaker, add ice, shake vigorously for 15 seconds

Strain into rocks glass filled with crushed ice

Fresh, tart, sweet, smooth and powerful. This delicious margarita will have you dancing all night long.

Happy Cinco de Mayo amigos!
