Lusting for J.Crew S/S14 Women’s Collection

September 16, 2013

One of the hottest shows of the year, and like an angel answering my prayers came a knock on my NYC door.

“This looked important, it was just dropped off for you, I thought I’d run it right up!” said the best Doorman on the Upper West side.

It was an invite to the coveted J.Crew fashion presentation taking place during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week!

After I did a little dance, I had to decide what to wear.

As depicted in this artist sketch, I chose a blue blazer, fresh white v-neck, light weight khakis and a pair of Sperry deck shoes; the look was very J.Crew!

So what does S/S 14 look like for the popular retailer?

A mouth-watering pallet of soft hues and breezy fabrics.

As opposed to a runway style fashion show, J.Crew allowed us to get up close and personal with the models in a ‘presentation’ format.

Details and fabric choices were easy to explore as the new designs were inches from our faces.

As I shopped the collection I ran into one of my favourite people, Tom Mora, the head of Women’s design for J.Crew

He excitedly asked for my opinions on the collection, intimidating I know, and we chatted for some time about our favourite pieces.

He also shared that this year J.Crew will do a few collaborations with some pretty amazing designers.

Byron and Dexter Peart, Montreal design duo behind WANT, will lend their design expertise and offer up some pretty spectacular bag designs for the S/S 14 collection.

And bags are not the only accessory J.Crew has done well. The jewelry hit a home run with me and left me wishing I was a girl!

Colourful and creative, with a mix-and-match of materials was everything you could hope for; the perfect arm candy party!

Then we talked shoes and a collaboration with European designer Sophia Webster and, although I don’t wear heels, I sure know a great pair when I see them!

The women’s line was so creative that I almost forgot about my boys on the other side of the room.

And what I saw there was the ‘classic with a twist’ male fare which J.Crew is known for!

Great shorts and blazers layered to create the perfect look for summer. Not only will you look fashionable, but you’ll keep cool!

For a long time I thought of J.Crew as a very casual line, but they’ve really been spicing up their professional look with suits while still managing to select fabrics which keep them easy to wear, comfortable and easily noted as J.Crew style.

And although the styles, cuts, fabrics and fashions of the men’s collection were delightful, the bare arms and bag-less models left me begging for some bangles and bobbles!

Congratulations J.Crew on your exciting S/S 14 collection, I will be waiting through a cold winter with excitement knowing your collection will hit the stores before the snow melts!
