“It’s My Party…

July 26, 2013

and I’ll cry if I want to, cry if I want to, cry if I want to, you would cry too if it happened to you”….

This was the theme song that played as my best friend Andrea fled to her room during her 8th birthday party.

I don’t quite recall the situation, but I do remember teasing her about something and as the song began to play in the background it became the perfect track for her to turn on the water works and make her dramatic exit.

Leslie Gore, the singer of It’s My Party, which became a chart topper in 1963, has created some pretty amazing other songs as well like Judy’s Turn To Cry. Both songs seemed to relay the same message;

If you F* with my Johnny, you’ll pay!

On a recent vacation to Palm Springs, one of my most favourite places in the world, I decided to take in the famed Follies.

A musical review which has some of the best, and oldest, talent on the stage to date!

Ex Broadway babies and Vegas showgirls come together to shake their tail feathers, showing the world they still have what it takes!

Always young at heart showing the audience that age is just a number! They’ve inspired me to do exactly what I want to do even when I’m a silver fox!

So where does Leslie Gore come in?

Lucky for me, she was the headliner who was brought in for the show this season.

She sang all her old songs that afternoon and whipped the sea of gays & greys into a time warp frenzy!

After the show, I managed to track down Leslie and un-like her threatening songs which were said to be the ‘bitchiest songs of her generation’ she was delightfully charming and kind!

I asked her if she’d pose for an interesting and fun photo, and she was only too kind to play along!

This was my picture party… I was going to cry if I wanted to!

Thanks for the fun Leslie, and for letting me re-live all the precious memories of how I teased my BFF Andrea at her 8th birthday party.

You will always hold a special place in my heart.

And so will Johnny!

Mr Fab if I want to!
