Knock Knock, It’s Yellow Door!

February 27, 2013

When it’s right, it’s ALL right and last night I was invited to one of the best openings I have been to since I became a blogger.

It all started with a Yellow Door!

I had the first glimpse of what I knew would be a breath-taking concept at Paul Hardy’s Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Show. Some of the most delicious desserts and handmade chocolate I have ever had.

So good, I even had Paul feeding them to me!

So when the Yellow Door went from a 6 month completion date to 14 months, I nearly withered up and died, but trust me, it was well worth the wait!

From the moment I walked through the ‘yellow door’ and was handed a class of Veuve Clicquot I knew this was going to be my kind of place!

The layout and decor of the space is beyond words. Around every corner a new design element that has you wishing you could pay rent and move on in!

Unique ideas that had me wondering if I was still in Calgary.

Like an over-the-top Las Vegas night club, I was transported into a place where design was key and no expense was spared.

With so much attention to detail, I wondered how the fare would compare!

The night was to include a 3 course menu and at the end I wished they would have started right back at the beginning… I never wanted to leave!

Lobster Bisque with a foie gras cream warmed our bellies and had us primed for the first course:

A Warm Heirloom Carrot & Goat Cheese Salad with a citrus cardamom dressing.

Topped with a dollop of goats milk foam, this was the first time I was excited about eating a salad!

Then came out the Duck Cassoulet

Also known as the show stopper!

Sliced Duck Breast and a large crispy cube of Pork Belly; I sware if it was legal to marry a dish of food, I would have proposed!

Then the Desert Trio

3 items that I could not pronounce if I tried; I drooled the entire time I took this photo!

And of course, giving 100%, a perfect wine was paired with each course!

This place is so visually impressive in both their space and their food that it’s already made its place on my top 3 restaurants in Calgary!

Just before we left, as if we weren’t already spoiled enough, the owner presented us with our own mini Le Creuset cocotte.

The same cocotte they’ll be serving up their ever-changing breakfast feature in daily!

I cannot wait to share this one of a kind restaurant with my friends and family, it was original and deliciously brilliant!

Thanks for the very generous invite Yellow Door.

You have so much to be proud of!

  1. I’m excited to check out Yellow Door Bistro after reading your post and drooling over your photos. Are you sure that was milk foam or your drool?

Looking forward to reading your comments!
