Background Open Casting for Film/TV

February 15, 2013

I always dreamt of being in front of the camera, and at the age of 16, I finally got my chance cast as an ‘extra’ or ‘background performer’ on the TV series, Incredible Story Studios.

Incredible Story Studios

My dreams became a reality as I stood 60 feet away from the rolling camera and walked back and forth across the street, take after take, for the better part of the day.

Minimum wage multiplied by 8 hours: I knew I was set for stardom.

Now, many years later, I have been lucky enough to have become a member of ACTRA, booked a couple of commercials and had some pretty amazing audition opportunities.

Now people always ask me how they can get their start, so I thought I would share an ‘Open Casting Call’ that’s happening for the new miniseries Klondike, which will film March 25th until mid June.

‘Klondike’ is a three-part two-hour miniseries – a story about two men who head west in 1897 to seek their fortune in the Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush.

So here’s the deets.

They require the following Background Performers:

Caucasian men with a slim build and need to have beards and moustaches with good character looks. (No visible large tattoos or modern haircuts)

Caucasian women – need to have long hair  – size range should be size 12 and smaller. (Women cannot have any large & visible tattoos, facial piercings, hair must be one solid color no highlighted or layered hair)

Aboriginal, Inuit, African and Chinese men/women & children 12 and up (Also no modern haircuts)

So if you’ve got the time and the dreams of working on set, then this might be your chance.

There will be 2 dates for the open casting;

Saturday Feb 16 & Saturday Feb 23 from 10am-6pm

Marlborough Mall (in space located next to food court)

36 Street & Memorial Drive N.E, Calgary AB

This is a legitimate casting with a very well-respected and well known casting director.

If you have any questions feel free to send me an email and ask… I’ll help you in any way I can!
