Underneath the Tree: A Chinook Holiday Gift Guide

November 21, 2012

With the snow falling and shop windows making their transformations, we are finally in my favourite holiday season! And this year I’ve decided to team up with one of the greatest retail malls in all of Canada to make sure my friends, family and readers have the best gifts underneath the tree!

This mall features it all: restaurants, a theatre, ample parking and the most unique assortment of retailers in Calgary.

Each Wednesday I’ll be featuring my 3 top gift finds from Chinook Centre to try to make your seasonal shopping a bit easier AND starting next week, and each week until Christmas, I’ll be giving you a chance to WIN some of the items!

To kick of this week, I’ve decided to look into gifts with a twist. Those gifts that have just a little bit of quirky that keep them original and exciting…

As party invites arrive in the mail, it might be a good idea to consider a few early gifts for that person who likes to show up in style.

And since I know sometimes sending your man shopping for fashion is like sending me into a bakery while I’m on a diet (hint: it can only end poorly!), I have sourced the perfect blazer…

Scotch & Soda ($225-$285)

It’s time to dump the poorly cut 3 button baggy blazer you’ve been wearing since the 80’s and comfy up in these fitted silhouettes.

Each blazer has interesting detailing, so whether it’s leather elbow patched or a playful liner, your guy will be looking current and sharp!

Now I have a lot of lady friends who like to shine brighter than their male party dates, so finding this oversized ring ($150) from Michael Kors will make sure that the conversation in focused on them.

This ring is so bad, it’s good!

Every girl needs a statement piece and this offers just that.

Now perhaps the wearable gift isn’t right for them.

Then you have to consider Anthropologie!

I literally screamed when I saw these whimsical cookie jars and couldn’t pull them off the shelf fast enough. At $88 I would consider them a steal! They are colourful, and are as much ‘art’ as they are function.

And think outside of the box… They can be used for tea bags, loose change, or for all our secrets… Perhaps I’ll need something bigger.

Gift giving should be fun, the stressful days of fighting for the last ‘Tickle Me Elmo’ are in the past. Give what you’d like or something that sets the gift apart from the rest.

You can’t go wrong!

See you next Wednesday, I’ll be armed with more great ideas and a gift for YOU!
