Fairy Tales, Monsters and the Genetic Imagination

October 4, 2012

Right now, an exhibit that takes your inner child on an adventure and makes you re-examine what you thought you knew about fairy tales is on display at the Glenbow Museum.

Until January 2nd, Calgary will be home to Fairy Tales, Monsters and the Genetic Imagination, one of only two venues in Canada lucky enough to receive this show!

Last week I was invited to take a journey with the curator of the exhibit; and what an adventure it was!

The gallery starts in the land of fairy tales, letting us take a second look at our beloved bedtime stories… Are they more than meets the eye?

Next through Monsters I witnessed some of the most bizarre videos I have ever seen.
The video by Motohiko Odani titled ‘Rompers‘ could literally send you into a psychedelic nightmare while still awake and in public.

Genetic Imaginations was our last stop.

There, a mutated human manatee, so life-like that I waited for it to come alive and slither away.

Glenbow is one of my favourite galleries in Canada, always bringing in a variety of unique exhibits and venturing outside the box to bring us amazing events like last seasons Schmancy!

The gallery is so large you can spend the day there, loosing yourself in a wonder of art and culture!

So make a date and let your imagination run wild!
