What to Wear Wednesday (Skulls)

September 19, 2012

I’ve been on the fence lately: I’m not sure if skulls are still ‘in’ or if they are now ‘passe’.

I think skulls in fashion were first brought to my attention by the late designer Alexander McQueen.

The coveted silk scarf, the item could go with everything!

But after skulls made their way into every designers collection in one way or another, I wonder if it’s time we pack them up and let our children bring them out in 20 years for round two.

That being said, I have found a few pieces that I think add an interesting twist on the ‘in your face’ classic and I thought I’d share a few of my favorite finds.

The ‘new’ take on the McQueen scarf ($635.00)

I love the floral pattern with the surprising integrated skull. Soft and gentle, I think this outshines the original.

The Skull and Pearl ring from House of Harlow ($65)

The fashion house brought to us by socialite celebrity turned designer Nicole Richie has kept the ring fashion forward by casting it in gold.

And because I am in love with pearls, this makes the ring an ace in my books!

Lastly, classic but simple, a silver bracelet from King Baby (265.o00)

I love the thin profile and the undersized links. I think mixing it with playful and light jewelry is the way to keep it fresh and interesting.

So what do you think?

Should we pack up the skulls for the next 20 years or keep mixing them in with our current trends?

Thanks for keeping me current!

  1. I was not a fan of the skull trend at all but did eventually buy that floral skull scarf you show in teal. It’s girlier….and I like that they are being pushed in a different direction. I’m starting to see a lot of sugar skulls lately….that I like. 🙂
