My Life

The Christmas Miser

December 22, 2011

In a few days the world will start to wash away all the signs of Christmas. A few years ago I was lucky enough to witness a visual team using snow shovels to quickly clear the windows at Macy’s in NYC. Plastic mannequin arms and fake snow were being tossed and trampled by staff as they chanted, “Time is money, gotta get the Valentine’s Day windows”. The horror of it all sent me screaming down the streets.

Since that moment I have hogged all the Christmas joy I can take and with it have partaken in any random job or activity I can get my greedy mittens on.

Last year I took a month to live in the mall as a ‘Living Statue’, as part of the festive mall decor. Spending hours watching shoppers scurry with bags full of gifts was right up my alley.

Although I wished I was dressed as the Sugar Plum Fairy or the Nutcracker, I was given the icy “Snow Miser” to call my own. Between the children’s screams of terror, I stood there calm and still all while singing carols in my head.

I wish they would have brought me back again this year, but for all of you who enjoy December as much as I do…

Merry Christmas!
