My Life

Calgary Helping Slave Lake

June 29, 2011

This has become the fabulous week of charities, and giving my time to others.

Although leaving my car downtown last night with its sunroof open, returning this morning to find a homeless man sleeping in it hardly constitutes ‘charity’, I still feel like I haven’t done enough.

Tonight is a fantastic event to support the residents of Slave Lake, Alberta, who lost their homes in the May 2011 wildfires. It will feature local celebrities (moi) and Canada’s favourite Bachelorette, Jillian Harris.  It’s called Tweetup.

The event, although primarily spread through the Twitter community, is open to all Calgarians and will take place at Melrose Cafe and Bar on Wednesday, June 29, starting at 6 p.m.

There will be a silent auction, raffle draw, and door prizes. Knowing me and my need to ‘win’ I will be bidding high and taking home several items.

All proceeds will go to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Response.

The money raised will help provide short-term assistance to affected families, including food, shelter, hygiene supplies and other essentials. In the long-term, the Red Cross will help the families rebuild their lives.

To keep in the loop follow the action on Twitter, Facebook, or on their Blog

Showing up is the very least you can do…
